BOSTON—The board of trustees at
New England College of Optometry (NECO) has announced its honorary degree recipient, two Presidential Medal awardees, and six valedictorians as part of its 130th commencement exercises to be held on May 19, 2024, at Boston’s Symphony Hall. Myopia expert and research leader Jane Gwiazda, Ph.D., is the honorary degree recipient. Marge Axelrad, editorial director emeritus of
Vision Monday and
VMAIL, and Marc Ferrara, executive consultant for Jobson Optical Group, will receive the Presidential Medal awards.

Vision Expo East 2024 announced the winners of the inaugural NOW Awards on Friday afternoon, March 15, at the Javits Center in New York City. The awards honored brands that embodied the latest trends and innovation in eyewear. All Vision Expo East eyewear exhibitors were encouraged to participate in NOW by Vision Expo by submitting one product per brand and/or collection that they believed best encapsulated the 2024 themes. NEW YORK—A new Sergio Cereda Design Award will be formally announced at Vision Expo East on March 16, a second initiative created in honor of eyewear designer Sergio Cereda to recognize distinctive and emerging talent in the eyewear industry. The North American Award follows the creation of the European award to honor Cereda, which was successfully launched at the Mido exhibition in Milan on Feb. 3, as
